結局原因不明

コンセントをさすとマザーボード上の特定のLSI1個が焼けて煙が出る、というのを2枚連続でやらかして数日間これにかかりっきりでした。結局、原因不明のままです。

再びお店のサポートセンターに行ったところ、2回連続で同じところから煙を吹くということは不良ではありえないので、交換はできませんとのこと。まぁ、そうでしょう。。

ところで、サポートコールセンターに電話したときは「煙が出たときの構成を持ってきてくれれば、どこが悪いのか確かめることができるかもしれない。他店で買ったものでも保証がなくていいなら検証できる」みたいなことを言われたのでケース以外全部(！)持って行ったんです。しかし結局サポートセンターでは検証はできませんと言われ、マザーボードしか見てくれませんでした。重かったのに……。
自分の店で売った商品しか検証してくれないのはある意味当然なのかもしれませんが、それならそうと最初に言ってほしい。

閑話休題。
焼けたのはUSBのチップとのこと。USBが一切使えなくなったことを事前に確認していたことを告げると、制御チップごと壊れたのではないかということでした。

肝心の原因ですが、サポートセンターの人曰く、おそらくはフロントパネルから伸びてるUSBコネクタの接続ミスではないかとのことでした。
これに関しては、IEEE1394と混同しないように事前に十分注意していたし、コネクタの形状が逆挿しできないようになっている（1本穴が埋まっている)ので、原因であることはまずないと思い、その場で接続ミスではなさそうだと言ったのですが、いまいち取り合ってもらえず。
家に帰って、接続を確認するも正しく接続されていました。ショートの原因になるようなほこりなどがないか確認しても無い。そもそも、前のマザーボードに接続してみるとまともに動くし、マザーボードも壊れない。
ということで何が原因でUSB関連のチップが焼け、制御チップが壊れたのかまったくの原因不明です。
USB以外はまともに動いているように見えることから、致命的な相性問題ではないように思えます。電源からの電圧をみても極端に高いようには見えませんし。

最初から、いやせめて2枚目は最小構成で動かしながら組んでいくべきでした…。そうすれば、相性や電源の故障なんかは見て取れたのかも。

1500円くらいのUSB拡張カードを買ったら無事動きUSBも使えるようになったので、今のところ実用上は問題ないです。しかし、壊れたのがUSBの部分だけという証拠はないので、いまいち不安が残ります。あと、他の部分が燃え出したりしたら困ります。マザーボードってよく燃えますか？（笑）

参考までに構成を書いておきます。何か知ってる方は教えていただけると大変ありがたいです。
あと、マザーボードがよく燃えるかどうかも…。
